L.A. Zine Fest ⁂

Sunday's inaugural L.A. Zine Fest at Spring Street's The Last Bookstore went awesomer than I expected. An organizer and my friend both said that L.A. stole the thunder of the San Francisco namesake in terms of attendees. KXLU and L.A. Record, as well as cassette tapes joined in on the hoopla, too.
Zine content from CIA conspiracies to blameworthy subjects to homosatire were available from as cheap as free 99 (or trade) to no more than $20.
I forgot to bring ca$h, but the perks of not carrying around change eventually made up for it. I got a "Modern Dullard" zine for $3 and "Shut the Fuck Up" button-looking beer bottle opener for free!
So the whole intention of zines pretty much surpasses that of photographs in terms of conveying raw passion and a childlike extension of the mind. Or at least, that's how I feel about it!

Moss & Rock end of February events on Broadway: free if you are!

Moss & Rock, an eclectic retail-meets-art space, opened last November in Long Beach's LGBTQ hub on Broadway.

Like a rolling stone, the boutique has been garnering attention from its monthly in store performances to freshly stocked brands such as PREST menswear and eco-conscious REDUX RITUAL.

As if that weren't enough, a fashion show and charity event for mitochondrial disease awareness will also showcase Moss & Rock's spring line with performances from Mr.Elevator & The Brain Hotel and The Vivids on Feb. 23. Admission is free and open to the general public.

Owner and operator Cat Madrid-Barone says the upcoming fête is one of two events you don't want to miss.

"Come out for another exciting evening filled with music, fashion and food trucks," says Cat for another upcoming event two days later on Saturday, Feb. 25.

For more info., check out the M&R Facebook here. Keep an eye out for the event invitations and official performers list.

Here's a preview of what's in store for the end of the month.
